Club Deportivo Ñ Ultrafonso-Sanse

The Ñ Ultrafonso-Sanse Sports Club was born in May 2004 thanks to a group of ultra-distance runners (100km runners) with the intention of combining various specialties and athletic activities such as triathlon, marathons or orientation.

Orientation races were originally a military exercise. In 1850, some Scandinavian soldiers decided that this exercise could also be practiced as a sport and in 1897, in Norway, the first orienteering race was held.

In Spain we had to wait almost another century for the Spanish Association of Orienteering Clubs (AECO) to be recognized, which happened in 1993 and marked the definitive establishment of this sport in our country, although the races had been taking place since 1979. .

Orienteering races are a challenge, since the runner must pass through a series of beacons that must be passed before reaching the finish line, using a map and a compass. To record this, the runners must punch a hole in a square card with the clamp that is attached to each of the beacons, which are usually white and orange triangular prisms.

The runner is the one who decides what route he will follow to find the beacon. In addition, these races have a limited time, so the runner must make decisions in a matter of seconds that can take him to the next marker or make him wander aimlessly.

The maps used in orienteering races are on a scale of 1:10,000 or 1:15,000, which show all the details with much greater fidelity than those usually used by hikers, on a scale of 1:25,000 or 1:50,000. They collect a large number of the characteristics of the terrain, from rocks or isolated trees to the different characteristics of the vegetation.
