Orienteering is a sport in which competitors, man, woman or team, visit a number of points marked on the ground, called checkpoints, in the shortest time possible, aided only by a zonal plane and a compass, according to the International Federation of orientation. (IOF).
The orientation in principle had its origins in the 19th century in the Scandinavian countries. In Spain it did not begin to be practiced until 1960, in the Armed Forces.
In 1970 Mr. Martin Kronlund, fencing professor at the INEF in Madrid, included the teaching of orientation as a subject for teachers and graduates in physical education.
Sotobosque is one of these clubs, based in Soto del Real in Madrid, and which is dedicated to orienteering as a sporting discipline, participating in a multitude of competitions and preparing those who want to approach this adventure. /p>
Together with them we will learn how to read the map, which is the "facility" in which the orientation activity takes place. It could be a park, a school, the town center or sports fields. And to use the compass, the other basic tool to reach the goal.
Sotobosque gives us the opportunity to participate in adventure and orientation activities as members of the club, or accompanying them. They organize orienteering competitions both on foot and by bicycle, for those who want to do a combination of orienteering and mountain biking.
The orientation does not know ages, it is designed for the little ones and the most veterans. Everyone can participate together, as long as it is not in a category lower than our level.
With Sotobosque we will learn the secrets of orientation, we will get in shape and we will learn not to get lost anymore, or at least to locate ourselves on a map and know our position.
Contact Sotobosque and you will enjoy getting to know different places while practicing orientation with professionals.
