The transformation experienced in the Galician vineyard in recent years has been total. They have recovered the native grapes that were about to succumb to the reproductive capacity of other foreign grapes, whose strains gave large amounts of fruits, which was what interested then.
It was worth more quantity than quality. One of these grapes is godello, also known as agudello, berdello and godelho. Given this diversity of such local names, no one can doubt their status as a deep Galician.
The climate of Valdeorras is the driest of all Galicia, with many hours of sun and a special luminosity, but also with abundant rainfall, which makes these valleys authentic verges.
Valdeorras, like almost all of Galicia, was invaded by the Palomino grape and its white wines did not reach even a bit of dignity. Fortunately, in the year 74 a vineyard restructuring program emerged in Valdeorras and in it, the return to the Godello strain was a primary objective.
One of the pioneers in the area was Antonio Alvarez, who built a modern winery on a hillside, surrounded by a few hectares of vineyards he planted, of course godello, and called it Medorras. The chosen site was splendid aesthetically and enologically speaking as they are good slopes.
His wines, named Godellón, from his birth had a great reception by the public. Years later, in 1990, the winery was acquired by new owners who continued the good work of the founder. In new name it was Adega Day-Noite , the target was called day, and its label represents the sun; they called Noite the red wine and it is the moon that takes its place. (Winery Tours Petin)
