Surfing consists in standing up on a surfboard whilst catching the waves. It may sound simple, but a lot of training and practice are required to master this water sport.

Which are the best areas to do surf in Cádiz?

In Cádiz, you will be able to choose between more than 60 surf schools. Surf schools are placed in: El Palmar, Conil de la Frontera, Tarifa, Chiclana de la Frontera, Barbate, Cádiz city, Roche, Vejer de la Frontera, El Puerto de Santa Maria, Sanlucar de Barrameda, San Fernando, El Lentiscal, Caños de Meca and Los Barrios.

- La Playa del Palmar is an extensive 4-kilometer beach located in Vejer de la Frontera which is aimed both to expert and inexperienced surfers. Here you will find a great number of surf schools. Surf can be practiced in any time of the year. However, if it is your first taste of surf, we recommend practicing it in summer. Here you will be able to get started in the surf with 1 hour and a half or 2-hour surf courses to learn the basic directions. There are also 2-hour group surf courses and private courses available, where the instructor will meet you exclusively. There are surf courses from 2 to 7 days, for beginners, experts, children and adults. You also have the possibility of booking 10, 12 or 14-hour surf courses. - Playa de la Cortadura is located at the entrance of Cádiz, and it is one of the best Andalusian beaches for surfing beginners. Its soft waves and the lack of stones have made it a safe and suitable beach for this sport. In Cádiz, you will have the possibility to take 2-hour private courses or experiencing new sensations as to do surf whilst downing or under the full moon for 90 minutes. If you want to take longer courses, you will be able to choose between 5 and 10 day-surf courses. If you want to do surf with your family, there is a 5-day surf course available, where you will also be given an edited video of the highlights of your experience. If you want to improve your skills, you will be able to take a surf course which consists of 5 surf lessons and 2 functional pieces of training.

- Another perfect beach for surfers is Yerbabuena. It is suitable for both surf and paddle surf practitioners and is located in the Breña Natural Park, in the municipality of Barbate. It is a beautiful, wild beach specially aimed at expert surfers. It is less known and crowded than the beach of El Palmar. You will find here 2-hour surf courses for groups.

-La Playa de la Fontanilla, located in the popular municipality of Conil de la Frontera, is one of the best beaches to do surf either for experts or beginners. In Conil, you will find very affordable 2-hour group courses, which can be taken in Spanish, English or German. Besides, you will be able to take 3, 5 or 6 surf lessons packages, with you will become an authentic wave expert.

- Roche is a 7-kilometer beach where you can also do surf in any year's season and it is also located in Conil de la Frontera. You will find here a 2-hour surf course indicated to children from 7 to 14 years old, or adult surf courses from 15 years old. More information here.

- Expert surfers will have a great time in Los Caños beach, which is in the Caños de Meca area of Barbate. This beach is perfect for surfers with an intermediate-high level. Sometimes, when waves are good, there are scheduled 2-hour surf courses for beginners.

Other suitable places to do surf in Cádiz are Chiclana or Tarifa, which is also perfect to do kitesurf.

- In Chiclana, you will enjoy Playa de Sancti Petri or La Barrosa beaches. You can enjoy here a variety of opportunities, like renting the equipment and doing surf on your own, taking weekend surf courses or even booking 7-day surf courses including accommodation and yoga lessons. If you want to take private courses, there are 1 and 2-hour surf courses available where the instructor will meet with you exclusively. More information here.

- In Tarifa, you will be able to take one of the group surf courses which are daily scheduled. There are 1 and 2-hour surf courses. You will also have the possibility to take a 2-hour private surf course.
