Entrance to the Palace and Gardens of Queluz

Visit one of the greatest exponents of Portuguese architecture from the late 18th century: the National Palace of Queluz, an ostentatious royal residence that was commissioned to be built by the house of Bragança.

You can imagine that you are part of Portuguese royalty as you stroll through the gardens and explore the luxurious interior of the palace. This connection between landscape and architecture is extremely harmonious and perfectly represents the way of life of the royalty of the time.

You cannot miss the Hall of Tiles, the King's Chamber (in which scenes from Don Quixote of La Mancha are depicted) or the Hall of Ambassadors . The Throne Room has Venetian crystal chandeliers on the ceiling and walls full of mirrors and covered in gold. Here splendid dances took place among the nobility.

The palace gardens are decorated with numerous statues, many of them representing classical mythology. Also notable are the stairs and orange tree patios. Did you know that they also had an artificial canal that filled with water whenever the monarchs wanted to take a boat ride?
