Description of Original Transnevada Sierra Nevada BTT route

We encourage you to go on one of the most incredible adventures in the city of Granada. This is a route with mountain bikes crossing the best places in this city, highlighting the already well-known Sierra Nevada.

It is a plan to do with friends or family, having some incredible moments and combining it with the sport of cycling. The route is divided into several stages combining their difficulty and ease, so it is adapted for anyone, expert or not in this sport. The stages are:
  • Güejar Sierra-Lugros: The first stage will depart from two towns anchored in the peaks of Sierra Nevada, full of culture and art, you will learn all their customs during the tour. It has a high difficulty although the maximum summit is 1890 meters, but it is characterized by numerous climbs.
  • Lugros-Abrigo de la Solana: Next, after passing three large characteristic areas of the Sierra Nevada, we arrive at the region of Lugros, where a completely agricultural landscape leads us to the other town of this stage Abrigo de la Solana of Tejos, here the vegetation changes and forest forests appear characterized by holm oaks or pine forests.
  • Abrigo de la Solana-Collado del Espino: In this stage we are leaving the town of Abrigo, crossing peaks such as Chullo or Almirez, we will change to a dry and warm climate until we reach the town of Colado del Espino . We will cross the most remote corners of the Sierra Nevada National Park. It is one of the most complicated stages of the route due to its ups and downs between pine forests.
  • Collado del Espino-Puerto de la Ragua: this part of the route will be carried out on the southern ridge of Sierra Nevada. We will leave the Collado del Espino region behind, crossing landscapes such as the mountain tops with the Mediterranean Sea in the background. Finally we will arrive at the Puerto de la Ragua belonging to the town of Alpujarra.
  • Puerto de la Ragua-Juviles: Now the route returns to Granada territory again. In the town of Alpujarra, the forest vegetation disappears, giving way to low scrubland, agricultural crops in which olive grove plantations stand out, very typical of the area thanks to its climate that favors the growth of these trees.
  • Juviles-Casa Forestal de Cañar: This stage begins to become more complicated than the previous one, the difficulty increases and although the height of the summits decreases to 1820 meters, however the average of the slope climbs increases by 2% compared to the previous part. We begin in the town of Juviles passing two large valleys with their respective rivers: the Trévelez and the Poqueira.
  • Cañar-Dílar Forest House:The time has come to leave the town of Alpujarra, and now we will begin to travel through the northern part of the Sierra Nevada, passing through the ravine of the Lanjarón river, climbing through the Tello nurseries until crossing the Dílar river, which gives its name to the region that houses it, which we will also visit.
  • Dílar-Güejar Sierra: The last stage returns us to our starting point passing through four famous rivers that cross the Sierra Nevada: Dílar, Monachil, Genil and Maitena. All of them with their diversity of vegetation between oak and chestnut groves.
As you will see when taking this snow-covered route, you will pass through a great diversity of vegetation, incredible landscapes and small regions in the Sierra Nevada, whose culture is deep-rooted and very traditional.

It is the most complete route you can do in the southern part of Spanish territory, and with which you will gain the most culture.learn.learn.
