Previously, Torrevieja, during the Reconquest period, was made up of a conglomerate of several watchtowers and control towers to prevent attacks on the Mediterranean coast. In the particular case of Torrevieja, there were two watchtowers: "Torrelamata" and an "old-tower" that later gave the name to the city.

Here, at first, only the workers of a nearby salt mine, called Eras de la Sal, lived. From the year 1803, with the transfer of the Administration of the Royal Salt mines to its nucleus by order of King Carlos IV, it began to acquire a certain fame. Houses were built and the number of inhabitants increased.

Since the 19th century, salt has been one of the main sources of wealth for the city, a privilege that would be granted by Alfonso XIII in 1931. Currently, it is one of the most important salt pans in Europe, with a third of its production exported to foreign market.

Whoever is going to take the wheel of the buggy must be at least 18 years old and prove that they have a valid B driving license: Same for the passenger who also wants to drive.
