I tell you this from experience with a border collie and because we know people who do mushing and even they sometimes have to put socks on theirs, due to injuries from pulling the sled and because of the cold.

So for us there is no problem, but keep in mind if your dog may have foot problems and if he is obedient enough not to run after an animal that crosses the path.
