Oceanário de Lisboa we are a marine museum founded by the motivation to conserve the seabed as a result of the threats suffered by ocean species. This was in 1998, at the Expo of that year.
This is how we were born, an oceanário dedicated to the oceans and their preservation. The largest indoor aquarium in Europe, a reference public space in the capital of Portugal, Lisbon and one of the most visited places in the country with around 1 million visitors every year.
Inside the aquarium you will find an excellent permanent exhibition and in the Sea Building you can see an area dedicated to temporary exhibitions.
A space full of terrestrial and marine species. Mammals, birds, invertebrates, fish, amphibians, plants and algae, this is everything you will find in the Lisbon Oceanarium.
Our conservation mission involves raising awareness and the best way is to educate, which is why we develop educational activities where we disseminate information about the oceans and their mission, their species, and about the challenges we face.
In addition, we are a collaborative space with several institutions. We cooperate in scientific research projects, conservation of marine biodiversity and sustainable development of the oceans.
With the concession of the Blue Ocean Foundation in 2015 we became a space with clear purposes: pedagogical, scientific and cultural.
