Description of Caving in Cuivo Mortero de Astrana Arredondo
When we tell you that we have the definitive caving route , it is because we really do. Such a bold statement cannot be taken lightly, but don't worry, we are not exaggerating, this caving trip to Cuivo-Mortero de Astrana , in the Cantabrian town of Arredondo , is a true delight. It is the largest extension in all of Spain with its 132 kilometers and is ranked number 13 in the world. Has it convinced you? Well, keep reading, we have it all planned.
Such a caving route will take us a long time to complete, so we will be on an adventure for around 9 hours . All you need will be rain boots, sportswear (don't mind staining) and a change of clothes for later. Forget the rest. We will take care of the necessary materials and an expert guide who will accompany you at all times. For this excursion through the interior of the earth, we will only travel 2 kilometers of Cuivo-Mortero de Astrana and we will face a drop of 269 meters.
The caving route through Cuivo-Mortero de Astrana begins in a well about 13 meters deep. We will overcome it with a handrail and a chain to enter a parallel universe where frogs, newts and salamanders reign, all of vivid and intense colors that hypnotize. At this point we will pass through a sea of stones and blocks that will eventually lead us to a sinuous underground meander.
At this point, the water will be scarce and we will see how gradually its channel is blurred until we find a wall that we will have to climb. When we overcome it, we will enter its river again and we will be in a gallery that once again molds itself like a meander, although soon the walls that surround us will lose height, which will lead us to crawl a few meters along the ground.
Once we have crawled a few meters, we come to a head that marks the entrance to the Sala de la Colada , an emblematic gallery of Cuivo de Astrana . The Laundry Room in turn represents the beginning of the most fun, since from here comes a long succession of natural pools through which we will have to swim and jump in order to continue. We will take the opportunity to put on our wetsuits near a mystical little lake that precedes all the pools we will run into.
When we go through this part we install the abseil and we descend vertiginously towards the Room of the Loss until we land on an underground ramp. With our feet on the ground, we continue until we reach the meander of the Spa , a section full of mud pools (that's why we said about the sportswear that you do not mind stains), but calm that nature It's wise and you'll see why.
Immediately afterwards we come across a fork. We will take an exit that is a crack in the ground through which we will have to enter. We will fall on a ramp and we will find ourselves in The Washing Machine , an area that is the antithesis to the meander of the Spa , because here we will see several natural pools with fresh and translucent waters. />
Now comes the real challenge of Cuivo-Mortero de Astrana , the meander of Fallopian . We will leave The Washing Machine by a very closed meander, very uncomfortable and narrow steps await us until we reach an exciting rappel. We will descend by its ledge and from here the discomfort ends, thus arriving at the Roscón room , a gallery full of the largest pools of all Cuivo-Mortero deAstrana .
We will take advantage of this long succession of pools to refresh ourselves and enjoy the surroundings a bit, and when we feel that it has been enough we continue to reach the colossal Sala del Arco . It will be a simple and enjoyable section, perfect to regain strength and calm the body after so much adventure. It will be simply walking through its interior until reaching the junction with the Leolorna River , a point that represents the connection with the Mortillano system .
From here we are at the final part of our caving route and we will follow the Leolorna course upwards to run into a couple of pools until we reach the Mortar ramps . This part takes us to the Blower Hole and we will find some ropes installed to facilitate the exit. Suddenly we will see a beam of light illuminating the entire cave and we will be able to see the exit, thus ending this exciting caving route through Cuivo-Mortero de Astrana .
Tour the most developed cave in Spain and join us on this caving route so exciting and extensive that it is adorned with the most fun natural challenges of all.
