Speleology to the Sil de Perlas in Valporquero 8 hours

We are going to visit the bowels of the Leon region and we will do it with a plan that quickens the pulse and amazes the senses. Discover the immense network of galleries and underground rivers that hide under the town of Valporquero de Torío with this caving route through Sil de Perlas and contemplate with your own eyes the complex ecosystem that can be hidden in a cave. It is an emblematic journey, but long and complex, so it will take us all day to complete this itinerary.

You only prepare hiking boots, a change of clothes, a towel and sportswear. We will take care of absolutely everything and you will not have to think about anything. It is a caving route that anyone can try even without experience. However, its narrow steps and its great demand mean that this activity can only be tried by people in good physical shape and with a minimum age of 16 years . In addition, being such a closed cave we can only go in maximum groups of 3 people .

This caving route through Sil de Perlas is one of the most mythical in the Leon region and you will soon discover why. The Sil de Perlas has its own entrance to the cavity so access will be easy. It has a drop of 200 meters and gradually descends, surpassing what is called meetings, that is, points where we can stop momentarily.

The caving route through Sil de Perlas is dizzying, with frenetic heights and countless narrow passages that eventually lead to the emblematic Valporquero cave . As we pass we will come across immense natural pools with very cold and translucent waters and to give you an idea of how colossal this environment is that hides underground, many times we will have to overcome these pools by swimming and diving. All this will be just beginning, after passing the famous stalagmites of El Pulpito and El Paso de Las Cuchillas .

After these subterranean pools we will find ourselves at the exit from Covona and in front of us we will see the galleries of the rivers that shine outside. In this part we can guarantee you the purest and most intense adventure of all, because believe it or not, we will enjoy the same things that we can find in a good canyoning route: long and zigzagging slides, abysmal jumps and even huge voids to save with descents abseiling.

When we go through these challenges we go through a section of the Sil de Perlas called the “M” pass , a complex section that quickens the pulse of even the most experienced. When we pass this part we will suddenly see each other outside and enjoy a little more adventure, but this time descending a nearby ravine.
