Description of Climbing Uriellu peak via Pidal-Cainejo Bulnes
Come with us to discover by climbing a beautiful corner of the Picos de Europa, the Pidal Cainejo route, in the emblematic Pico Uriellu. An adventure in style awaits you, and never better said, lasting approximately 4 hours in the Asturian council of Bulnes. Get ready for what is coming, it is a waste of adrenaline of epic proportions, and no wonder, because we will face a mountain 2519 meters high.
You will only have to come to Bulnes with comfortable sports clothing, you will not have to bring, buy or organize anything else, since, in addition to providing you with one of our expert guides, we will also give you all the relevant materials so that you can function with ease in this climbing route along the Pidal Cainejo route.
This climbing section has two entrances, although the best known, and at the same time, safest, is the one that begins below a part of this summit called “Terrace of loose stones”. We can opt for either of the two accesses and we will choose based on the part that most captivates us and catches our attention.
After climbing through one of these two entrances we reach the second pitch that welcomes us with a small adhesion plate. This is a part of the climbing route that takes on a zigzag-shaped route that we will have to complete until we reach a spur that descends through the Shulze terrace. We continue our path along the Uriellu peak, crossing horizontally through an area of the mountain with loose stones
We will continue like this until we reach the northern “shoulder”, and here we have to emphasize one thing, the views. Without a doubt they are spectacular and overwhelming and leave even the climber with the most mileage stunned, and no wonder, because the Picos de Europa are an idyllic corner to enjoy this adventure sport. Here we will see the Uriellu plain, Camburero, Arnandes, Maín, and even the sea. This section is 58 meters long.
We will continue with our climbing route until we reach the foot of the northern fissure, where three pitches separate us until we can reach the top of Pico Uriellu. Later, on this part, we will join a 25-meter-long chimney and after passing it, we will find ourselves in a meeting that is boxed in.
We passed the meeting and a truly challenging part comes, but very adrenaline, since from here we begin with a truly impressive length due to the strong verticality it presents. However, soon we will arrive at another meeting, however, this one is much more comfortable than the previous one since it is flat and spacious.
Since this last meeting we can already see how the landscape at our feet is getting smaller and smaller due to the amazing altitude at which we are and we find ourselves increasinglynear the summit. Continuing with the climbing route we come across another chimney that widens and we will have to overcome it facing to the right. From here we reach a large and comfortable area, ideal for folding the ropes and we will get fully into a kind of funnel.
Once we have overcome this last stretch we reach the top and we will enjoy some well-deserved views that are beautiful. It is then when we can say that we have officially climbed what was the first route climbed as such in Spain, so rest assured that you will be climbing through a mostemblematic.emblematic.
