Snowshoeing route to Laguna de Peñalara 5 hours

Once the snow has come, we are all eager for a winter getaway in the mountains of Sierra de Guadarrama. This time, you will also have the chance of trying a different activity like a snowshoes tour. The trip we are about to recommend you will take you up to lake Peñalara. 

We will be meeting at the parking lot of Puerto de Cotos. The guides will expain you there how to put the snowshoes on, and how to use the hiking poles correctly. Once everyone is ready, we will begin our ascent to lake Laguna Grande de Peñalara whose origin was in a huge glacier 11 millions of years ago. 

At the highest stretch of our journey, we will be able to spot the top of Dos Hermanas and Peñalara mountain and, of course, that of Bola del Mundo, which is at the opposite side of the valley we will be crossing. 

On our way back, we will go through a forest with many examples of red-colored pine trees. We wil then continue with our descent and head to Venta Marcelino, a local food restaurant in Puerto de Cotos, where we will have reached the end of our trip. 

This is a medium-low difficulty hike. If you are used to long-distance hikes, then you won't have any problems completing the 6 km track of our hiking expedition. 

You should bring warm, mountain clothes and a backpack with some food and drink. And you also nee to bring proper sun protection.
