Back in 1979, several young Pontes began to practice canoeing in the Ribeira Dam with two old canoes provided by the Nautical Firrete de Pontedeume. This was the beginning of a long and successful history of pontoon canoeing.
With very little means and great enthusiasm, the Xuvenil Group of Piraguism was formed in 1980 with Pepe Severiano as president.
The first generation of pirates of the Xuvenil was formed: Alén, Vispalia, Sanjurjo, Mieres, Luis Vega ... begin to participate in the first competitions.
Our canoeists are the fundamental piece of the club.
Our work philosophy is based on them, the best for the canoeists will be the best for the club.
The canoeing club is one of the most important clubs in As Pontes.
To affirm this, we are not only referring to results, budget or infrastructure; but also that, throughout the history of the club, most of the children and elders of our town practiced canoeing.
