The Antigua Casa de Guardia Winery is a company founded in 1840 by José de la Guardia, a Spanish knight who would end up holding the title of Governor of Segovia at the proposal of Queen Isabel II herself.
This circumstance led to the sale of the establishment to Enrique Navarro, who in 1895 bequeathed it to José Ruiz Luque, who remained in charge of the business throughout his life. Upon his death without descendants in 1932, the establishment passed to his nephew, José Garijo Ruiz, who became the main promoter of the winery during the 20th century.
Although it is a recently built building, the winery has a history of more than 160 years of uninterrupted operation, being the oldest of the existing wineries in Malaga. The building zealously respects the inherited tradition and it can be seen in the architectural features of the work how it attempts to recover the connection between the habitat and man, based on the wine culture.
The wine routes that run through the Antigua Casa de Guardia Winery were born with the idea of satisfying the demands of that new and attentive tourist, eager to know in detail the world of wine and everything that It surrounds you: the vineyard, the winery, the production processes, the rural architecture, etc.
