Description of Bodegas Real

Finca MariSánchez, a crossroads since time immemorial, is one of the most beautiful properties that can be found on this earth. Located in the southern area of La Mancha, known as Campo de Montiel, in these lands Miguel de Cervantes placed the beginning of the exploits of his most universal character, Don Quixote of La Mancha. Natural border between the Muslim and Christian kingdoms, it preserves since medieval times the three characteristic crops of the area: vine, olive tree and cereal.

All this in an environment of great natural and landscape wealth, which will allow you to enjoy and discover the heart of one of the most beautiful enclaves of the La Mancha wine region. Finca Marisánchez allows the visitor to enjoy a place where tradition and modernity coexist in perfect harmony.

At Finca Marisánchez hospitality has a particular flavor and color with which we want to imbue everyone who has the pleasure of joining us.

Currently, the vineyards of the Estate occupy an area of 280 Ha where 500,000 vines grow in total, of which Cencibel or Tempranillo represents 80%. The remaining 20% goes to Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah as red grape varieties, as well as Chardonnay and Viura or Macabeo, as white grape varieties.

Sectorization

Finca Marisánchez has 800 hectares of land, of which the part located on the margins of the swamp is destined for the cultivation of cereal, while the olive grove and the vineyard extend in the most arid areas of the interior of the farm. Most of the native scrubland is located in the northeastern part of the plantation.

In the year 84, soil and zoning research began to find the best location for the vineyard within the estate. For this, the part of the hillside facing east was chosen, whose solar exposure and maximum height of 700 meters made it the appropriate place for the red varieties, looking for the coldest areas for the white Chardonnay varieties. and Maccabeus.

From its beginnings, the plantation was divided into five vineyards, whose traditional names allude to the history of the property itself: El Jaque, Casa Pacico, La Jarilla de los Ladrones, Cerro de las Colmenas and Cerro of the Priest. Each of the wines made by Bodegas Real comes from a selected area within these five.

Soil type

Depending on the zoning, types of loamy-sandy or silty-clay soil are distinguished, with boulders of metamorphic stone, slates and type sandstones.calcareous. There is a layer of between 15 and 20% clay and sand underneath, which gives it a high degree of permeability.

Climate

The climate is extreme continental, characterized by very cold winters and very hot and dry summers, with strong thermal fluctuations occurring throughout the year. The average annual rainfall ranges between 350 and 400 ml/m2, with the rainiest seasons being autumn and spring, always with great irregularity.

Type of driving

In those plots that have old vines, the glass conduction system is preserved. However, 90% of the plantation that was originally planted in glass has been transformed over the years to the trellis system, not only in order to facilitate the harvesting work but also to facilitate certain cultivation techniques such as green harvesting, green pruning, thinning and aeration. These operations are only carried out if they are necessary, seeking a balance between exposure to the sun of the bunches and protection from high radiation.

Irrigation system

Due to the excessive aridity of the land during the summer drought, from the beginning a drip irrigation system was established at Finca Marisánchez that is fed by two ponds built inside the farm and whose water comes from of Cartesian wells.

Production

Depending on the plantation framework, Finca Marisánchez has an average yield of between 2 to 3 kg per vine, except in plots exploited for sale in which productions are higher. Bodegas Real does not currently produce all its own production because it is expected that the vineyard will have sufficient vigor and strength after taking root for more than 10 years. However, we are prepared for the gradual growth of demand in the future.next.
