Description of Dominio de Tares

The Bierzo Designation of Origin is located in a perfectly differentiated region in the west of the province of León. It occupies a depression or tectonic basin surrounded by important mountain formations (Montes de León and Cantabrian Mountains).

The Dominio de Tares vineyard occupies about 4,200 hectares. in homogeneous plots. Most of which are found in low and mid-slope areas. The bottom of the depression, at about 400 m altitude, presents a fundamentally flat relief, corresponding to the fossilized levels of the river terraces of the Sil and its tributaries that cross and drain the area.

The edges of the depression are very rugged, reaching the vineyard here, altitudes close to 800 meters.

Of the vine varieties grown in this region, the red Mencía occupies a prominent place, both for its quality and its extension, accompanied by the Garnacha Tintorera and the white Palomino, Doña Blanca, Malvasía and Godello. White, rosé and red wines are made, with a marked personality. The red wines from Mencía are fruity and very tasty when they are young.

Get in touch with Dominio de Tares and come enjoy a region with a lot to teach you.
