Description of Lagar de Costa

Lagar de Costa is a family winery, in which theeffort and dedication of three generations linked to the care of the Albariño vines and the production of wine come together. Its construction dates back more than a century and has been subject to various renovations, always trying to maintain its original stone and wood structure.

Our family has direct control of all the processes both in the vineyard when selecting the grapes and in the winery, by incorporating the most modern technology for wine production, thus combining the traditional and the modern, in order to obtain a wine with its own characteristics.

90% of the grape production comes from our own vineyards, some of them more than 50 years old, which are located in the parish of Castrelo, located in the Umia-O Grove Intertidal Complex (Red Natura 2000), in front of the Island of A Toxa.

The vineyards are in lowlands very close to the sea and whose altitude ranges between 0 and 30 meters. The terroir has a sandy loam texture, therefore being a loose soil with good water penetration capacity and ease of drainage. The vineyard is planted in a system perfectly adapted to our area due to the high humidity, with mild temperatures and high rainfall well distributed throughout the year. The plantation framework is 4x4 (about 1,200 vines per Ha.)
