Pago de los Capellanes located in the heart of the Ribera del Duero is the Pago de los Capellanes, located 1 km away. near Pedrosa de Duero, a town in Burgos where some of the best grapes in the entire Ribera are harvested.
In its origins, there were only a few thousand vines on the farm, in the traditional glass shape. The Rodero-Villa couple, surrounded by an exceptional team, and betting on a very particular way of conceiving wine, has managed to ensure that today the Pago de los Capellanes exceeds 100 hectares of their own trellised vineyard, making it possible to fulfill a dream that dates back to 1980.
The name Pago de los Capellanes comes from the municipal area in which the vineyards and winery are located. Pago, as a place or place, designates a surface of land.
Formerly, in the period from the 13th to the 14th century, there was a chaplaincy in Pedrosa de Duero, and the local inhabitants donated small plots of land to the chaplains in exchange for masses and prayers for the deceased.
With the passage of time, the chaplains of Pedrosa came to gather a municipal term, but with the arrival of the confiscation of Mendizábal (1855) the properties of the church and the clergy returned to the hands of the City Council. Despite this, the inhabitants of Pedrosa continued to call the Pago, that of the Chaplains.
