Under the project called "Grumant 58", by designer Andrej Akhmenton, the Schooner Sadko was built in 1993 in the city of Petrozavodsk, 200 miles northeast of Saint Petersburg, Russia . It is a classic schooner, built entirely of wood. It is located in Marina Port Vell, Barcelona.
It is an exact reproduction of an 18th century schooner that was very popular in Northern Europe (Holland, England, Russia...) and on the American Atlantic coast.
It offers the possibility of individual or group outings, to enjoy a day of sailing and the magic of Mediterranean sunsets. It is also available for private charters, special events, sponsors, filming days, photo sessions, etc.
This type of schooner was commonly used as mail ships, messengers in naval wars and even as pirate ships. They were appreciated in these seas for their exceptional navigation capacity: fast, safe boats that did not need a large crew.
In 1764, in the English fleet it was these schooners that transported royal dispatches in times of war. They were also the favorite ships of pirates: they used them in the Indian Ocean and in the southern Atlantic Ocean. The large, unwieldy trading ships were excellent prey for the small, agile schooners, equipped with eight or ten small-caliber guns.
"Sadko" is a faithful replica of 18th century vessels, incorporating modern navigation equipment. Thanks to its features, it allows for comfortable, safe and fast navigation without losing the classic charm of ancient times.
