We think that in the snow, we can only ski and play. Yes, but also, we can walk on it to enjoy an incredible route.
Thanks to cross-country skiing, all this is achieved. It is the best way to spend an incredible day strolling through unique places that covered in snow make them even more incredible, without needing to know more complex techniques to ski at a sporting level.
1. Forget about the risks
Not about another thing, but during a cross-country ski adventure is that you fall or laugh (or not) very much. The difference with sports skiing, that is riskier, this modality, because is practically at ground level and not reaches high speeds, you are not exposed to danger.
So if you are one of those who care excessively for your safety, calm because it is a sport that can practice from the smallest to those who do not have excessive physical fitness.
2. Get in shape
Despite not having to make a superhuman effort, it is true that many muscles are exercised. The coordination of movements between the upper and lower extremities, make the joints work, and well.
In a cross-country skiing route you can lose about 780 kcal per hour, thus ranking among the sports that burn the most calories per hour.
Also, it's fun and you usually go for wonderful landscapes. It's worth it, is it not?
3. Be more original than the rest
Of all the people who practice skiing in our country, only 5% do cross-country skiing. It may be because we are at a disadvantage in other countries with snow quotas that are much higher than ours, or perhaps because we do not have so many tracks enabled to put it into practice. But the truth is, that it is a very original sport, which is worth trying just because it is so entertaining.
4. Classic or skating?
There exist two types of cross-country skiing. The classic modality is the one that all the beginners try. Original of the Nordic countries, since it does not suppose great difficulty of learning, it is usually a good alternative for those who do not want frights.
On the other hand, those who practice skating are those who knows about skiing. It’s more like skiing on ice. It provides more excitement but also, more balance and, in general, physical strength.
Which one you choose?
5. Enjoy a “tour” on the snow mantle
It is not that you will rise from the snow, but you will slide over it easily, allowing you to enjoy the views, peacefully, depending on the pace you take.
The good thing about cross-country ski is because you follow the trail you want, you can stop everytime you want, take pictures of the sights you like the most, or jump to lay a little bit with the snow.
When you can go cross-country skiing?
Even though in Spain this is not a very generalized modality and has, maybe, less popularity than skiing since not all snow tracks are designed as a cross-country skiing zone, but, day by day, is getting more and more famous.
But, if you decide to practice it, the best time to do is in January and February, when snow has the adequate depth to abilitate the routes.
