Description of Mascun Ravine Superior Level III Sierra de Guara
Do you like canyoning?
If it is one of your passions and you have experience, we suggest descending a ravine in the Sierra de Guara, in the province of Huesca. Many people agree that it is the best area in Europe to practice this sport.
The aquatic ravines take place between the months of March and October. You can choose between the following ravines: Gorgas Negras or Mascun Superior. /strong>. The Chimiachas is another of the options eligible throughout the year, since it is a dry type ravine. Of course, it has the same level as its aquatic brothers.
Let's break down the differences between them. The first, Gorgas Negras is characterized by being the hardest of all of them. The causes that explain its difficulty must be found in the enormous length of its route, its isolation, the cold temperature of its waters, and the irregularity of its terrain. It is a canyon only suitable for expert people and in good physical condition.
The Barranco de Mascun Superior, for its part, is somewhat more lax. Although talking about relaxation in these cases does not make much sense since there are no escapes and to complete it you need at least 8 hours between the approach, the descent and the return. If Mascun Superior stands out for something, it is because it is a reference in the canyons of the Sierra de Guara since it was discovered back in the year 1956. It enjoys rappelling, some of up to 18 meters, pools, semi-underground passages, etc., which scream out for someone to record the journey with an action camera.
Finally, possibly as a complement to another day to one of the previous two, the options close with the Barranco de Chimiachas, a dry canyon in which we will go through chaos (blocks of stones that hinder normal progress), handrails and no less than ten rappels (two of them avoidable). The colophon is a descent of 45 meters above the "Cocineta", an impressive dome of orange colors that opens to the sky through a hole.
We will begin the descent of any of the canyons between 6 or 7 in the morning. Whichever route you choose, it is a route with level III difficulty, so good physical shape and knowing how to rappel are required. with ease and a certain level of experience togo canyoning.
In any case, the help of qualified instructors will allow us to complete the tour without any problems. They will ensure your safety and will be in charge of advising you throughout the journey. We will meet in Rodellar to start the march.
You will have to prepare the appropriate clothing for the occasion and, once you have everything ready, you will begin this route through the canyons that will take us a full day. It is recommended to bring spare clothes, swimsuit, towel and sports shoes. We give you the material that is needed to do the canyoning activity before the start: it is the helmet, the neoprene and the rest of the technical team.
