Guided tour, Contrasts of LeónSKU: 38549
Description of Guided tour, Contrasts of LeónWe start our visit in the city center, on the Plaza de Santo Domingo. We will see here the Casa de los Botines, designed by the architect Antonio Gaudí; and just next to it the Palacio de los Guzmanes, a Renaissance building that nowadays is used as headquarters of the Provincial Council.
The historic city centre, built on the site of the military camp of the Roman Legio VII, begins here. On the other side of the square, we find the modern city with the Avenida de Ordoño II serving as its backbone.
Walking by the Roman wall, we get to the Romanesque collegiate church of San Isidoro that is very close to the Palacio de los Guzmanes. Visiting the church is a must; and especially visiting its museum (optional), where the Holy Grail is kept, as well as the Pantheon of the Kings of León that is considered to be the Sistine Chapel of Spanish Romanesque art.
The Gothic Cathedral is very close to here. Some of its stained glass windows are from the 12th century.
Next to it we find the Plaza Mayor, surrounded by the Barrio Húmedo district that is full of bars, inns and restaurants where one can enjoy delicious tapas and the rich and varied gastronomy of León.
Children (up to 6 years old) accompanying two paying adults can join the tour for free. We have a special price for kids between 7 and 14 years of age (please check with us).
