Trekking in the ring of Picos Massif Central

Would you like to discover the most emblematic natural landscape in Picos de Europa? Yes, we're talking about Macizo de los Urielles, as well known as Macizo Central. Have you ever heard about this incredible landscape? It's located between Cares and Duje rivers. This is the most difficult mountain area you will find in this region. It has many a slope and the highest peaks, such as Torrecerredo or Picu Urriellu, the most emblematic peak in Asturias' mountain landscape.

This incredible activity will last five days. We will enjoy spending the night in refuges to take a break between climbing to the different peaks.

The starting point will be established in Arenas de Cabrales parking. From here, we will go to Poncebos bridge, where we will start the well-known Cares route, with many of the sharpest mountain passes in the whole world. After this, we will arrive at Caín, where we will enjoy an accommodation in a local hostel to take a breath and get ready for the real adventure that this route is.

On the second day, we will enjoy an intense route. We will go to Macizo Central, with a route characterized by its sharpest slopes to pass through Cares river, Vega, and Corona Mountain, where we will be able to visit Chorco de Los lobos. From here, we will go to Asotín Canal, where we will cross a beautiful landscape to arrive at Vega de Asotín. When we arrive here, we will only rise to the refuge to spend the night. It will be located in one of the best and most impressive corners in all the Natural Park. Could you think of a better place to stay after such an intense day?

On the third day, we will rise high mountains. We won't descend from 2,000 meters high. We will go to Estrella de Los Picos refuge, which is located in the most famous peak in this environment, Picu Urriellu, 500 metres to its west. 

For the fourth day, we have organized a route to go to Cabrones Refuge, which is the highest mountain base, Torrecerredo. Moreover, if the weather is good, we will rise to reach its peak. We will also reach Cabrones' peak on our way to the refuge for that night. Collada del Agua is located next to the refuge. From here, we will have the opportunity to watch the impressive Cornión massif at sunset.

What about the last day? We will descend from the refuge to Poncebos bridge. We will pass through the Canal de Amuesa channel to arrive at the emblematic village of Bulnes. From this incredible landscape, we will descend through Canal del Tejo to arrive at the end of this incredible experience, in Poncebos.

And, last but not least, in all the refuges we will have available for you blankets, so you only need to bring a fine sleeping bag or sheets. You will also enjoy a picnic-style lunch for all the trips, so you won't need to carry all the food around from the first day.
