Description of Circular hiking route to Pedraforca in Gósol
We have prepared an emblematic Catalan hiking route with which we will discover the unique Pedraforca massif with its iconic summit divided in two. It is a long and relatively demanding excursion, approximately 6 hours in which we will cover a route of around 16 kilometers in length with a gradient of more than 750 meters. Due to its duration and terrain, you need to be minimum 12 years old and we will start from the Lleida town of Gósol.
Enjoy with us this circular hiking route through Pedraforca for which you will only need to come with comfortable clothing, mountain sports shoes and something to eat and drink during the walk. At your disposal you will have one of our expert guides who will take you to the foot of this colossal massif that stands on a wild and wooded environment full of vegetation, legends and countless geological curiosities.
Our circular hiking route through Pedraforca will take us to see a large part of the Cadí Moixeró Natural Park, where this summit is located and during the journey we will pass through paths full of history such as the Camí dels Bons Homes, the Camí del Minaires and the Ruta dels Segadors. On our way we will also see the Gósol castle, of medieval origin, and we will walk through the Torrente de Les Mulleres valley.
The hiking route will begin after leaving the town of Gósol, when we have taken a track that will take us north. We will take a path that runs through an endless pine forest and after 20 minutes walking through this grove we will reach the Fuente de Terreros, at 1625 meters high. At this moment, is when we cross its hill and continue walking through another leafy forest.
We will continue here with the intention of reaching the Pollegó Superior, which we will reach by crossing the Collado de Verdet. From here the forest dissipates little by little and we will have magnificent views of the Josa Valley and the Cadí Valley. We continue bordering the Pedraforca to reach the Serrat de la Portella hill. We will continue our path to reach the Rock Fountain, a beautiful spring of water that springs out of nowhere in the middle of the rock.
At this moment we will be enjoying a part of the hiking route that will take us through meadows to reach the Collel, the limit between the waters of the Llobregat and the Segre. When we overcomeIn this part, the Pedraforca paths will take us along a path that goes downhill to the Lluís Estasen refuge. It will be a part of the excursion that will give us a break and we will be able to take the opportunity to have beautiful views of the southern face of the Sierra del Cadí, of the imposing precipices of the Gresolet Valley and the always vigilant Pedraforca, of course.
We will spend about 30 minutes until we reach the Collado de Pi Ajagut, where there will be a beautiful network of streams and water channels that come down from the top of the Pedraforca. During the rainy season, these are a real spectacle and some fantastic waterfalls will appear before us. This will take us 15 minutes and after that we will come across a detour that takes us again in the direction of the Lluís Estasen refuge. We will take a path to the right to reach the Pedraforca tartera, that is, a part filled almost exclusively with rocks.
Upon reaching this place we will come across two paths, we will take the one on the left to head towards Gósol. At this moment we will be walking along the eastern slope of Pedraforca. We will continually go downhill and suddenly we will have lost 100 meters. We will enjoy a strong and beautiful contrast. While before we were immersed in green and humid forests, now, traveling along the south face of Pedraforca, we will see red pine forests and a drier environment.
We will continue going down until we reach a somewhat flatter part, where there are many meadows and where we will see the old mines that were in this area. We will continue our hiking route through this area and we will be able to reach the Collado de Jou where we will see the most vertical part of the Pollegó Inferior, the Sierra de Ensija and the Sierra del Verde. When we overcome this part we will be closer and closer to Gósol and the paths that we will find here will take us again to the bowels of a forest.
After crossing the forest we suddenly find ourselves on the B-400 road. We will follow the road until we see a small path with a slight descent, which we will enter to reach the Collado del Cap de la Creu. Here we will have to go through pasture fences 4 times. We are now approaching the end and we will be able to see the homonymous viewpoint, which will finally give us spectacular views of the Gósol Valley and the Sorribes Valley. At this moment we only have 1 kilometer of hiking route left until we reach the town of Gósol and that is when we can end our experience withwhich we will have completely discovered the slope of Pedraforca.
