Welcome to Museu Dos Coches, a building that opened its doors on May 23, 1905 as the National Museum of Cars in Belém, Lisbon.
It was founded by order of Queen Amelia of Orleans to display the carriages and carriages of the royal family so that everyone could see them, although it underwent modifications and the second inauguration was in May. 2015, celebrating the anniversary of 110 years as a former museum.
We are located in the Royal Picadeiro of the Belém Palace, in the Plaza Afonso de Albuquerque, where the riding school built in 172 by a famous Italian architect was formerly located.
Our museum is one of the most visited by tourists in Lisbon and has the best collections of the oldest and most historic carriages and floats in the world.
The objective is to care for and protect the collections while facilitating access to society in order to disseminate all our collections.
The new museum has different exhibition rooms for both permanent and temporary collections, it also has private areas that can be reserved for events and a workshop in which they maintain the carriages, contributing to their conservation and restoration.
It also has a library and an auditorium to carry out different cultural activities for both adults and children. We have a great educational program!
Stop by the museum shop to buy a souvenir or stop by the information office if you have any questions about our Foundation.
We are waiting for you!
