The Cheese and Cider Route combines two of the essential aspects of Asturian tourism, gastronomy and culture, with Cabrales cheese and Asturian AIDS as the main protagonists. With our guided tour you will review the history of these two great products, from their origin to the tasting, through the planting and production process.
They say that the best way to conquer a person is by stomach, and we can assure you that our users are delighted with this activity. In fact, most repeat. The natural wealth of Asturias means that the products resulting from the land and animals are of excellent quality. Our visit to Asturian lands lasts four hours, divided into a first excursion part and a second part, in which the typical Espicha will be performed.
We will begin with a visit to one of the best cheese factories in the area, owned by J.A Bueno, where the process of making and aging Cabrales Cheese will be explained. We will continue reviewing the rural way of life by going toLa Quintana and La Ería, where you will learn about the Asturian habitat as well as the management of farmland, in a collective way. In the Comunal Mountain you will contemplate the livestock and the space where grazing takes place, you will get spectacular views of the Cuera Ports and the mountain range par excellence, the Picos de Europa.
After learning about the production process and seeing the species from which it comes, we will enter the Cheese Cave, in Sotámbanos, where you will attend the explanation about the ripening of Cabrales, with special mention of the aspects of temperature and light.
With the visit to La Pumarada, Cider begins to gain prominence. We will walk among the apple crops and learn about the varieties of Asturian cider. In the Llagar, we will go to meet Guillermina, the beloved owner of the Parimandi Farmhouse, where such a product is made by hand.
As a final culmination, we have to try the products that we have known in an event as typical as it is ancient: La Espichada. It is a meeting of a group of friends or family that has been passed down from generation to generation. During these meetings, a great meal with native Asturian products takes place. On this occasion, we will do it at theCasa Niembro Cider Housewhere we will taste a complete menu where there is no shortage of cheeses, accompanied by honey and corn cakes; as well as a salad and boiled eggs, along with a delicious hash and beans with cod. Of course, the lacón is seasoned with cider, which will wash down the freshly poured food.
