The Abadía Retuerta winery wisely takes advantage of the winemaking tradition combined with the most cutting-edge technology, being one of the most advanced in Europe. It occupies an area of 10,000 m2 and wines have been made there since 1996.
We are characterized by the use of gravity for each and every one of the winemaking processes, having a very complete "analysis center" in the same winery (analytical and microbiological), in addition to two gas chromatographs. The availability of a large number of stainless steel tanks where the wines from grapes from the different plots are made separately.
The aging cellar, with capacity for almost 5,000 barrels, is carved into the side of the hill, which allows natural temperature control. The barrels are placed individually on shelves designed to facilitate racking, without the need to subject the wine to any type of pumping. 70% of the barrels come from the French forests of Allier and Limousin and the remaining 30% from American oak forests, both of which are replaced after the fourth year of use.
The visit to Abadía Retuerta will be guided by selected personnel, and will consist of a visit to the vineyard, the winery and the Abbey (12th century), concluding with a commented tasting of its wines in the refectory of the monastery.
Visits can be made throughout the year and are carried out every day of the week, that is, from Monday to Sunday. For weekend visits, only groups of 20 or more will be admitted. All visits must be arranged in advance. Children under ten years of age have restricted access to the winery and the tasting area.
