Tips if you are going to do Canyoning in Gran Canaria
Among the innumerable options of adventure activities that we can find in Gran Canaria, one of the most surprising and most requested is canyoning in Las Palmas. Despite the small size of our island, you will find several options to practice the best descent of ravines.
There is also coasteering, a very similar activity that consists in following the course of the maritime coast, that includes cliffs and rocks, so it will be necessary to use rappelling and climbing techniques.
Usually, canyoning is done during Winter since the flow of the water is the most adequate for the descends, and the crisp and nice temperatures in the islands make it easy despite the season.
Here, you have a video so you can watch a canyoning descend in Gran Canaria:
To go canyoning, we will always provide the technical material: the complete neoprene, helmet and, in case if the ravine has rappelling descends, harness and ropes.
How can I start practicing canyoning in Gran Canaria?
To start practicing this sport, a great option could be the Cernícalos ravine, in Telde. This descend is completely in approximately in 5 hours, covering a 2,5 km trail, in total.
The approach is made through laurel forests, which are only found in the Canary Islands. We do the activity in groups of maximum 10 participants. The professional guides that accompany you take photos during the adventure so that you can obtain a photographic report.
You can also enroll in the adventure at the La Manta ravine, in Mogán. We will leave the cars next to a fountain with very characteristic tiles, and from here we only have to climb a hill to access the beginning of the ravine. Along the route we will make several jumps to its beautiful pools of transparent waters. This adventure culminates with a rappel descent of 50 meters.
Like we said, another spectacular alternative that you can check and try is coasteering, a canyoning modality in which, we walk along the rocks of the coast. In Gran Canaria you can do coasteering in Agaete. It is a journey of approximately 4 hours. Among the surprises that the descent reserves, you will find slides, descents with rope (rappel), swim sections, access to coastal caves, and even a zip line. A minimum age of 12 years is required to live this adventure.
Equally, we can recommend the La Mina ravine, in La Vega de San Mateo. This one is in the center of the Gran Canaria island. This ravine will give you 6 rappel descends, in one of the which, you will abseil next to a 35-meters waterfall. Just spectacular! This descend is also for people older than 12 years, and it takes around half a day to complete it.
