Getting to know Ibiza in its essence, immersing yourself in the Mediterranean Sea and swimming in its turquoise waters, enjoying the wonders that this island presents in its interior, is something that anyone who comes or lives in the area should not miss.

The pleasant climate that prevails almost all year round and the entity that characterises the island of Ibiza and Formentera, are more than convincing reasons to start diving, to continue acquiring levels within the activity or, if you already have some qualifications, to make the best dives in relation to the course you have taken.

What scuba diving plans can I do in Ibiza?

- A perfect excuse to jump into the water with your children, or if you're reluctant to dive too deep into the sea, is snorkelling. This alternative to scuba diving is easy to do and very exciting. In Sant Joan de Labritja, Sant Antoni de Portmany or Santa Maria, you can snorkel and swim amongst a wide variety of fish, which you will see to perfection thanks to these crystal-clear waters. A snorkel, fins and goggles will be enough to enjoy the seabed.

- For those who want to take a step towards what could be their great passion, Ibiza has a strategic point for diving baptisms: Sant Antony. It's a good way to get started in this sport and try your hand at it with full equipment. A boat will take you out to sea to begin your adventure onto spectacular reefs. These courses, as you are not certified, are usually done in a few hours with an expert who always accompanies you. A short theory lesson and a dive of about 40 minutes will make up the underwater baptism.

- If you are looking for an international guarantee, you can also opt for the Discover Scuba Diving course. As with the baptisms you won't have a diving certificate at the end of the course, but you do have the guarantee of PADI professionals.

- Do you want to go one step further on the seabed? You can accredit your PADI licence with the Open Water Diver, which allows you to dive to 18 metres worldwide. Only people over 10 years old can do this course in Santa Marta, which usually lasts about 4-5 days, where you will be given theory and practice in order to consolidate your basic knowledge.

- Also under the PADI certification, and for those who want to dive independently in any ocean, the Advanced Open Water course will allow you to discover the depths of the island of Ibiza at depths of more than 30 metres. Through 5 dives you will explore different places of your choice.

- Those who have a diving licence (it is always obligatory to present the relevant accreditation depending on the depth at which the activity is to be carried out), can do different types of dives all over the island, generally in places as spectacular as Islas Margaritas, in the Cuevas de la Luz or Ses Caletes, and even in the Pillars of Hercules. The hard part will be choosing the destination and the type of voucher you want to enjoy 1, 2 or even 10 dives.

The sea allows the island to make the most of water activities. All around Ibiza you can find coastal spots to dive and practice scuba diving, baptisms or more specific courses. Sant Josep de Sa Talaia, Cala de San Vicente, Santa Eularia Des Riu, San Antonio Abad or Portinatx are other places where you will find schools that will allow you to dive.

Whatever your choice for diving in Ibiza, you won't have to worry about bringing your equipment, as they always provide you with all the equipment you need for the dive.
