What are the best beaches for scuba diving in Lanzarote?

- Puerto del Carmen is one of the most popular diving sites in Lanzarote. If you are going to be here there are several places that you can't miss, for example:

+ A diving immersion in Waikiki. To reach this diving area you usually start from Playa Grande and it's a perfect spot for both first dives and certified divers. If you're a beginner, you'll be greeted by a landscape of sandy seascapes decorated with rocks that are home to a large variety of marine life. On the other hand, if you are an OWD (Open Water Diver) diver, for example, you will find programmes that will allow you to dive up to 35 metres underwater, where you can enter caves covered with black coral, marine flora and sponges of all colours.

+ A diving session in the Bay of Playa Chica. When we talk about diving in Playa Chica we are talking about a perfect place for newcomers. Playa Chica is located in the south of the island, it is a small beach with fine golden sand and totally translucent waters. There is a lot of marine life and it is the place par excellence to dive at any time of the year. It is one of those must visits for anyone who’s keen on diving without a fuss in these waters.

- Even if it is true that in Puerto del Carmen you will find the most diving offers in all of Lanzarote, that does not mean that it is the best place for it, as that award could easily be held by the town of Playa Blanca, in Yaiza. This area in the south of the island of Lanzarote is unique in the whole of Europe and we say this with confidence, the reason being because you can immerse yourself in places such as:

+ The Museum of the Atlantic. Surely the word "museum" might have surprised you at first. Diving in the Museo del Atlántico does not mean that you will dive in a water tank, but that you will dive in the only underwater museum in Europe. Here the ocean is more alive than ever, and you'll dive among huge fish schools that wander among beautiful sculptures sitting at a depth of 12 metres in the Bay of Las Coloradas. The purpose of this museum is to preserve, conserve and educate about the marine environment thanks to these underwater works of art that give rise to indescribable artificial corals.

+ Punta Berrugo. Diving here is a synonym of adrenaline. Here you can take an underwater stroll across the Atlantic Ocean with impressive rays and moray eels, and if you have the appropriate training for it, you can explore a fascinating shipwreck.

+ Flamingo. What we love about diving in this area is that the marine life here is extremely colourful - eerie barracuda, endless schools of fish, stingrays, torpedoes and angel sharks. Many consider it to be Lanzarote's most biodiverse diving site.

- Diving in La Graciosa. We cannot say goodbye without talking about a diving session in La Graciosa. Once again, we come across a unique place in Europe. La Graciosa is a small islet in the north of Lanzarote belonging to the town of Teguise, which in 1995 was awarded the title of the largest marine reserve in Europe. Here we find places such as the Cueva de los Jureles, the Bajo de la Gerardias or the Burrera, places par excellence in La Graciosa for diving. On the other hand, in the town of Teguise itself, you will also find an endless list of places to dive and all kinds of diving immersions, although the one we recommend the most is the one with sharks. Here you will find many dives with sharks, harmless species such as nurse sharks or hounds, but for this type of dive you will need a special licence.
