What better way to see it than by taking a horseback ride? One of our favourite routes takes us along the cliff tops of Macarella and Macarelletas from Turqueta Cove to Camí de Cavalls. These locations are considered to be among the most beautiful on the whole island, mixing the deep blue waters with the dark green woods that fringe the route.

If you find yourself in Camí de Cavalls, you can go around the coast towards Son Saura. Here you’ll find one of the most unspoilt beaches in the Balearic islands, so if you need to disconnect from the world, this is the place for you.

• Ferrerías: In and around this peaceful village are hidden treasures that few outsiders know about. This makes the routes through the area very special. We recommend those in Fustam Cove or Galdana Cove if you like the idea of feeling the sea breeze on your face as you gallop freely along the shore. Mitjana Cove is one of the diamonds of Menorca. Its beauty is such that it is a part of the Areas of Special Natural Interest, and on top of that it’s perfect for a family trip. Don’t forget the name Mitjana when you’re planning a day out with your loved ones.

• San Cristobal: located at the southern end of the island, this region boasts the highest concentration of megalithic monuments in the entire archipelago, making it one of the most special places to see. Here you can ride to Binigaus Cove, the purest beach on the South coast of Menorca. There are no man-made structures as far as the eye can see, only nature’s wonders. Despite being so close to Santo Tomás, it’s an idyllic place to go horse riding. While in the area, why not head for Son Bou Beach, a short half hour trot that will make you believe that you’re traversing an uninhabited desert island.

• Mahón: being the capital of the island, it has the most important port and that’s why you’ll find people travelling by horse, pony and foal. Its central location leaves the rest of the island an easy drive away if you’re new to horse riding, or even if you’re an experienced rider. Don’t miss this unique experience!

What is the duration of a horse riding trip in Menorca?

The timing of the trip depends on your level, so you can choose a shorter or longer distance depending on your experience in the saddle.

- Beginners: If you’ve never ridden this animal before, your route will last between one and two hours. Although you won’t cover as much ground, we can assure you that the experience will be just as rewarding. Best of all is that these entry level routes are perfect for families. The routes of Camí de Cavalls or to Mitjana Cove are ideal for the newcomers to the equestrian world.

- Advanced: If you’re a horse lover, you’ll have the opportunity to ride trails that need several hours, or even several days, to complete. Reaching Algendar Creek or traversing the length of the North coast of the island are options if you have experience on horseback. These routes include rocky sections that the animals have to cross, and staying safe and secure on top of the animal as it finds a path across uneven terrain is not as simple as it looks in the movies. That’s why these trails are reserved for those who know how to ride. Another treat for the experienced riders is to swap the standard saddle for a traditional Menorcan saddle - there’s no better way to feel like a true local than by riding in the traditional style.

- Children: the trails aimed at children are the shortest and usually last between 20 and 30 minutes. Our goal is that both the pony and the rider have a good time and that’s why we keep it short. All the same, we can’t think of a better way for kids to enjoy their first experience of horse riding.

Who can go horse riding in Menorca?

If you think that you need to be an experienced horseman or horsewoman to get in the saddle, let us tell you that it doesn’t matter if you’re an equestrian expert or not. The only requirements are that you are taller than 130cm and are over 9 years old to ride an adult horse.

For children under 12 who are less than a metre tall, a pony is the best option as a full grown horse will be too big. We assure you that when you tell your kids that they’ll be able to get involved, and that they’ll get to ride a pony, they’ll love the idea. If you’ve got young children, don’t hesitate to make a booking.
