Clube do Paiva is known as the club of river experts, at least in the north of Portugal. The company was born in 2003 in the town of Alvarenga, a small Portuguese town belonging to the municipality of Arouca.

If we characterize ourselves for something, it is for having years and years of experience in the circuit of activities related to whitewater. Our staff is expressly made up of local experts, all of them accredited with the certificate of the International Rafting Federation.

Since the year of our inauguration, back in 2003, we have developed all our activities in the Arouca Geopark. There we offer excursions of the most varied water adventure sports such as rafting, canoeing, canyoning or >trekking fluvial through the rivers.

For this purpose, we use the main river, the Paiva, and its tributaries, with the incredible Aguieiras Waterfall in front. From the beginning, this local company became one of the leaders in the region. Currently, we continue to project the same illusion as the day we started, and that can be revealed by both our clients, national or foreign, as well as our partners.

For us it is vitally important to share our passion for what we do with our guests, which is why we continue at the foot of the canyon, readjusting to the present circumstances without ceasing to believe in the foundations that founded our company in the past and put us on the map.

We insist, all our activities are held in protected nature areas such as the UNESCO Arouca Geopark, in the Magic Mountains or in the spaces of the Natura 2000 Network.

Another fundamental aspect, which we strictly adhere to, has to do with security. We follow strict rules in our tours and, likewise, all the material used to carry out the activities, of excellent quality, is brand new and is regularly checked and renewed.

Now all that remains is to let yourself go and enjoy one of the most surprising areas of Portugal with the magnificent adventures that we have prepared with all the love for your delight.

The Río Paiva canyon is something unique because it allows you to decipher it through different sports disciplines. As it could not be otherwise, one of them is doing canyoning in its sharp rocks cut with a knife.

But let's go in parts. In the northern part of Portugal, very close to both Porto and Aveiro, we discovered one of those somewhat unknown natural paradises that surprise our own and strangers. It is very difficult to get rid of everything we have seen once we have entered the depths of the Arouca Geopark.

With an area of no less than 328 square kilometers, this park of enormous biodiversity, with wild flora and fauna, is a true feast for the senses: the shapes of the cliffs , its vertical walls, the colors of the river due to the incidence of the sun, the leafiness of its forests, its sudden changes in landscape, etc.

But it is also a delight for lovers of water adventure sports, those that take place in the jaws of the canyon itself or on its margins. Clube do Paiva Barranquismo is in charge of providing a canyoning activity that takes place between natural slides, jumps into crystalline pools and rappel descents.

Clube do Paiva Rafting was born as a spin-off from the main company with the intention of providing service with activities related to the practice of rafting.

Surely by now you all remember it, but rafting consists of going down a river, following the direction of the current, aboard a raft or other type of boat with room for a group wide, normally six people plus the instructor who is in the queue directing the course and avoiding obstacles.

What makes it special to practice rafting on the Río Paiva? The question is, where do we start? The number of attractions offered by the Paiva River is such that it would be almost impossible to count it in such a short space. Still, despite everything, let's try.

Starting in 2015, it became world famous for the construction of the Passadiços del Paiva, a network of aerial walkways of more than 8 kilometers in length that run through the gorge between river beaches, waterfalls of enormous altitude and dozens of archaeological sites. Yes, in the Arouca Geopark you can find up to 41 sites where you can observe the gigantic fossils of Canelas.

In 2021, it added to its mammoth infrastructures the longest pedestrian suspension bridge on the planet, 516 meters. Almost nothing. It would be logical, then, that the canyon that unfolds just below is of unheard of beauty. And it is.

And, also, normal, that various activities are held here that put their clients to the test, caught between the achievement of the activity itself and the beautiful environment that surrounds them. Distractions, taking into account everything we have just related, are more common than usual.

What to say about the flow that the river carries. An inclement current that forms white water rapids that pose a challenge for all those who decide to try to overcome them on board their boats: rafting has become a religion that congregates both beginners and experienced adventurers.

The highlight is the Gola do salto, with a unevenness of 4 metres. It will remind you of one of those stormy rivers in the Peruvian or Colombian jungle. That impressive. In your feat you will not be alone since leading the boat will be one of our certified instructors to control the route. Safety is our main asset.

In addition, all our rafting activities are totally respectful with the environment, our team is made up of local guides who love nature and preserve the environment in which they livecelebrate the circuits, be it from the sport thatwhatever.

If you can do rafting along its course in a river, you can also practice canoeing. A discipline that, like the kayak, can pass through calm waters or rapids raging.

The Paiva River, located inside the Arouca Geopark, is the ideal setting to carry out this practice. Due to its meandering route, extremely fun, one can find all the virtues associated with a river with such a flow: small jumps, some acceleration, and, above all, a moment of relaxation surrounded by an incomparable setting.
