The Palace of the Planet King. Guided visit

The king Philip IV of Spain, known as Rey Planeta (literally, King Planet) was an important patron of all arts but, especially painting.

Due to that fact, during his reign, Madrid became a reference city of Europe from an artistic and cultural point of view, where most of the important pieces of art of the Spanish Golden Age were created.

Thanks to Count-Duke of Olivares, in 1632 Philip IV decided to remodel the Buen Retiro Park. The palace was surrounded by magnificent gardens and a recreational area for parties, meetings with the high society, theatres and even naval battles on the pond.
