Diving in El Hierro is submerging in the most dense island in terms of volcanoes of all the Canaries. El Hierro is one of the best places in the archipelago for scuba diving because the waters of the Atlantic Ocean remain around 20 degrees during all seasons.

Where to dive in El Hierro?

Most of the diving activities in El Hierro are concentrated in La Restinga, although you will also find a diving center that operates from Frontera.

- Diving in La Restinga: what we most like to share with the divers in this area is the calm that allows us to practice this sport thanks to its mild climate and areas with less tourist concentration than what we observe in other Canary Islands. The Marine Reserve of Mar de las Calmas stands out in this regard. The clarity of the water means that during the dive you can see distances of up to 30 meters.

To start in the world of diving you can do a baptism in La Restinga with official PADI certificate for what you have to go to the southern part of El Hierro. The instructors will prepare you in the diving center with a theoretical part before walking to the beach to start the exercises in the Atlantic Ocean. You will do 4 of these tests and you will begin to walk under these Canary waters up to a maximum of 12 meters. Here you can see all the diving baptisms.

This first underwater experience in El Hierro can convince you to get your title as an Open Water PADI diver in La Restinga. Keep in mind that you can also take this course without going through a water baptism. If you want to complete it at one time, you will need to spend about a week in this part of the Canary Islands. That's why you have packages with all the contents for this course, after which you can submerge up to 18 meters, with accommodation for 6 nights. Continue your diving training on this island that belongs to the province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife with the Advance Open Water. You will go through a theoretical specialization but, most importantly, are the immersions you will do, some compulsory, and others that you will choose to specialize in the type of diving you prefer near the La Restinga pier. As a natural protection zone, diving in La Restinga is very controlled, so the buoys in the Atlantic mark the space so that there is only one boat of divers at the same time. You will get an underwater experience in the Canaries almost exclusively. Once you have a degree, you start to hire dives in Mar de Las Calmas. The diving centers will also take you to know other interesting points around the island that are in Roques de Salmor or La Caleta.
