Where are the best hiking trails in Lanzarote?

As we know that there are many hikes that you can do on this island, we are going to make it easy for you and we are going to divide them by levels, as some have more difficulty than others.

- Easy level routes:

• Caldera Blanca: here is one of the highest peaks of the whole island. It has a duration of 4 hours and is very affordable to spend a great day out with the family, as it is carried out by simple and sometimes paved roads. Of course, during the tour there are no shadows or fountains, so be well prepared with water bottles and sunscreen. It is done over the lava surface and starts from the Church of Nuestra Señora de los Dolores.

• La Graciosa: did you know that there is a ferry from Órzola that takes you to this wonderful island? Then come and discover it by hiking along its beautiful tropical beaches. The ferry will leave you in Caleta de Sebo and from there, you can walk to different beaches that will make you fall in love with its landscapes.

• Cueva de los Verdes: discover the impressive volcanic structure belonging to the municipality of Haría with this incredible route. A total of 1 mile (2 km) that will begin in the volcanic gallery of nearly 4 miles (6 km) that characterizes this area. And all this while you hallucinate with the incredible cave that was formed by the eruption of about 4 thousand years ago on Mount Corona.

- Intermediate level routes:

• From Femés to Papagayo: one of the most popular of Lanzarote and that will offer you both mountain views and the beautiful Atlantic coast and Fuerteventura. Throughout this walk, you will cross the Natural Monument of the Ajaches, you will have dreamlike views of the Corralejo Dunes, Lobos Island, Blanca beach and the pristine beaches that make up Punta de Papagayo. It will start at the Mirador de Femés and lasts about 4 hours.

• From El Golfo to Charco de los Clicos: this tour of about 6 miles (10 km) starts in the beautiful fishing village of El Golfo, on the west coast of the island and reaches the impressive Charco de los Clicos, where the Rupia-Maritima algae dyes the water green and merges with the surrounding volcanic colors. An impressive walk!

• Haría to El Bosquecillo: hiking this route is fascinating, as it is one of the best areas for it. You will leave from Haría for a 5 miles (8 km) route that goes to the viewpoints of Montaña Ganda and El Bosquecillo; from where you can have amazing views of Famara.

• Quemada Beach to Carmen Port: this walk, although it is 7 miles (12 km) long, is quite bearable. During the journey you will pass through key points of the island as the Calero and Carmen Ports and the Quíquere cliff.

- Difficult level routes:

• Camino de los Gracioseros: if you feel like touring the Famara Cliffs, this route is ideal for you. It is 2 miles (4 km) one way where you will be in the surroundings of Yé and Guinate, passing through rocky trails and be careful! It can be a bit slippery so go well prepared.

• Los Ajaches: this hike is not very long, only 3 miles (6 km), but it is very steep! It is one of the most challenging hikes to do in Lanzarote, but we are sure you will love it. You will leave from Femés and you will have continuously breathtaking views of the wildlife that characterizes this Canary Island.

When is the best time to go hiking in Lanzarote?

As we have already mentioned, this island has an enviable climate, so you can do this activity at any time of the year. The only thing we think it is important to mention is that during the excursions you will most likely not find any shade, so you will have to take into account that detail to go well prepared. Sunscreen and water bottles will be your main allies!

Who can hike in Lanzarote?

Here it doesn’t matter the age but the physical conditions. If you are looking for a family outing with the little ones of the house, go for one of the easy level routes that we have mentioned, such as the Caldera Blanca. If you want to enjoy a medium level, the recommended age is 14 years old, but this may vary depending on the physical level of each person. Of course, if you are going to hike a high-level trail, previous experience is mandatory!
