The history of cava is closely related to Codorniú.
We must go back to the mid-16th century to begin to understand the evolution of cava. Already on this date, a document attests to the existence of Jaume Codorniú and confirms that at that time the family already had presses, barrels and vats.
In 1659, Anna, the Codorniú family, and Miquel Raventós married. Anna was the last to bear the surname. Two centuries later, Josep Raventós reorients the business and brings an innovative industry to the region.
In 1872, after traveling to Champagne, they began to produce the first bottles of sparkling wine, of their own quality and personality. The traditional method is applied and the Xarel-lo and Parellada varieties are combined. Codorníu is already a pioneer of the cava industry in Spain.
Currently Codorniú is the most important cava company in Spain and has great international prestige.
To know and visit the Codorniú cavas is to immerse yourself in the history of cava, a culture and values. In them we appreciate the architecture, innovation and the good work done, aspects that make Codorníu a place full of magical sensations, dreams, stories of effort and trust.
