Welcome to the National Prado Museum, one of the most recognized and popular museums in the world with more than 3 million annual visitors, located in the capital of Spain, Madrid.< /p>
Inaugurated in 1819 with a private collection conceived for the enjoyment of a few, it became, as a result of various social and political events, the cultural institution for the whole world that we know today.
Our mission is the conservation and dissemination of a unique art collection in the world with a commitment to culturally enrich society with permanent and temporary collections.
The permanent collections bring together paintings and 1,000 sculptures, thousands of works of decorative art, frescoes, drawings and photographs and works from different periods, styles and themes are exhibited in temporary exhibitions.
We integrate works that reflect the history of Spain, with the most complete collection of Spanish paintings in the world with more than 7,000 paintings and a repertoire that covers works of European art from the 11th century to early 20th century with Italian and Flemish pictorial works.
In the different rooms of the Prado you can see highly recognized works by prominent artists. El Bosch, El Greco, Titian, Velázquez and Goya are some of the painters whose works can be seen in the museum.
