If the Alto Asón region is known for something, it is for the quantity and quality of its caves. Currently, there are more than 9,000 cataloged caves in Cantabria. In this context, the Alto Asón Cave Network develops its activity.

Some of the largest underground systems in Spain are located in this area. We have created a circuit of tours guided by professionals that will take you into a world of adventure and admiration for these unique creations of nature.

Most cavities are accessible to everyone, regardless of physical fitness, age or experience. There are caves for all tastes, from the simplest ones but with great horizontal development, to others in which rappelling is an important part of the visit.

We usually work in the caves of Escalón, La Fresca, Cayuela and Coventosa.

But we are not only dedicated to caving. We are also experts in via ferrata, and that is why we can take you on very technical routes such as those of El Cáliz, El Risco, Socueva (extreme level ) or that of La Concha.

In the Alto Asón region different via ferratas of various levels await you, so that yes or yes you will find the ideal route for you and yours. We will explore the best rocky massifs in this area of Cantabria while we are perfectly secured to a steel cable.

We include all the material, accident insurance and our qualified specialists who will ensure that the experience is unbeatable. For beginners there will be an introduction to elementary techniques, and experts will be guided through more technical ferratas.

These are the itineraries we can guide you through:

• Via ferrata El Cáliz : 2 exit routes in the 300-meter route. One of them is considered difficult and the other medium-difficult level. The unevenness is 120 meters.

• Via ferrata El Risco : a high-level route. It has 80 meters of unevenness and 250 meters long. Optionally, you can cross a Nepalese bridge .

• Via ferrata de Socueva : it will be 550 meters long, with 250 meters of unevenness. In this case it is a longer path, which will need to be completed in 3 hours. The level is very high, only suitable for very experienced people.

• Via ferrata de La Concha : 750 meters to travel with 80 meters of unevenness in this case. It consists of a rappel, two zip lines and three bridges. It is very high level.

Children from 14 years old can also access these tours, but always accompanied by responsible adults.

One of the most appropriate areas for caving in Cantabria is the Alto Asón region .

We have initiation routes of low difficulty , making the excursion possible for all people (including children), and others of a higher level, for expert cavers, who together with our guides can share fun underground paths safely and knowledge of the place.

Our most famous caving tours take place in these caves:

- El Mortillano, the largest cave in Spain . Discover caves with wide walls or rather thin and long, for all levels. The perfect choice if you are coming as a family!

- Step : With admirable formations made by nature, full of stalagmites, stalactites and wide walls. It is one of the most recommended low-demand caves. We will begin by crossing the initial quarry, passing under an arch and we will arrive at the Poodle, a very unique stalactite that has been baptized with that curious name. The path continues through staggered streams and ends up reaching a fabulous underground lake . It will be necessary to descend with ropes in some section. The difference in altitude from start to finish is 60 meters and the activity will last approximately 2 hours.

- Coventosa (Cave of Ghosts) , not suitable for the uninitiated. The exit from this cave leads to the Cueto to Coventosa itinerary. It starts off strong, descending 300 meters through a vertical pool. We will reach a maximum depth of 800 meters, and this area requires very technical caving skills. It is considered medium level , consists of a 15-meter rappel and will last about 2 hours.

- Cayuela : the exit from this cave leads to Tonio-Cayuela , a quite famous journey in this sector. This cave has great fame and reasons are not lacking. It begins with 12 runs until it descends 280 meters and throughout the tour its sharp stalactites can be seen in its well-known gallery of the Sierras . It also lasts 2 hours of crossing, being of average level.

For those who are new to this sport, the Calera ravine is perfect for them since it does not present too much difficulty and we adapt our route to level I . At the foot of Mount Zalama this descent is designed for all audiences since it took about 3 hours and with all the excitement you need.

The other ravine, that of Argumedo, presents a level II in terms of difficulty, so we do recommend having some experience in this practice, although you will also be accompanied by our technicians who will guide you at all times.
