It comes as no surprise that Jaca is a unique and privileged location where you may enjoy the wildest nature amid the Aragonese Pyrenees. It has established itself as one of the best places in northern Spain for extreme sports and activities, particularly in the mountains, and is much more than just selecting a hiking route. For instance, rafting! Rafting is one of those exciting things to do with friends for a good adrenaline rush, and can also be done with family plan, especially for those that aren't content with just heading to a burger joint for a snack or for lunch.

Rafting in the Aragonese region is a terrific plan in every sense of the term! You may ask why. Huesca boasts excellent orography and hydrography, that's why. The Gallego River, one of its main tributaries, is ideal for this because of its rapids, jumps... Not to mention its spectacular 'props' like the Mallos de Riglo, an abrupt rock formation that accompanies us throughout the river's descent as we pass through rapids and natural wonders.

When we consider that you can choose a segment or level of difficulty depending on who you're rafting with, rafting in Jaca is adaptable to any time and scenario.

What rafting descents can I do in Jaca?

- Level 1 descent: The Gallego river's route has the lowest level of difficulty. This 6.5-kilometer descent begins in Murillo de Gallego and concludes at Santa Eulalia de Gallego. It is a perfect section for children and adults who, for example, do not know how to swim or who feel more comfortable in calm waters or, that typical school excursion that you have had to organize without challenges but still had to make it fun.

- Level 2 descent: If you want a quick and thrilling descent but aren't quite ready for the more harsh rapids, an intermediate degree of difficulty is all you need! If you are among this group, a level 2 difficulty level is ideal, as it allows you to enjoy the Murillo del Ro Gallego, nature, and a relaxing swim at the end of the activity. It begins in Carcavilla and runs for 7 kilometres through waters with slight current and small jumps of no more than 25 centimetres.

- Level 3 descent: We leave the most adrenaline-pumping rafting descents on the Gallego for the end because it is the most thrilling. This route is only for persons who have prior expertise with this sport, i.e., those who have done it before. While it is not necessary to be an expert in the field (remember that you are always accompanied by an expert who will go with you in the raft). This descent starts at the Peña reservoir and proceeds through the Gallego river canyon and is more challenging than the others described above, with a 10-kilometre course. You'll come across rapids, waves, and white water, named after the white foam that the water produces when it meets the rocks.

So, pick the level of difficulty that best suits the characteristics of the group you'll be sharing this journey with. You must remember that you will have to work as a team and maintain the balance of the raft on the waters. It's pointless to consider whether or not to go rafting on the Gallego River, which runs past Jaca... Get your swimming costume on and get your squad together because you will have to paddle hard.
