Tips if you are going to do Snowshoeing in Andorra

Snow rackets are the perfect tool to easily advance through snowy terrain, thanks to them, we can reach places that another way we couldn’t. If you are one those who dare to go skiing or snowboarding or want to discover new places like Andorra more than the slopes, you can choose Ordino, Canillo, La Massana, Santa Juliá de Loria or Ecamp. This activity is suitable for all audiences and is something really easy to do, even though there exist more difficult and longer routes for adults with certain physical form and accustomed with doing hiking or mountaineering. You’ll need to remember that snow rackets route tires you more than just walking over firm terrain since you’ll need to do an extra effort to walk on snow.

If you are thinking about doing a family-friendly route with kids, you can choose between a route that goes from Ordino to Arcalís, is a short route with more than 1 hour and specially designed for kids starting with 6 years. Another option is the 2-hour route through Grandvalira, also suitable for kids older than 6 and that goes through Grau Roig and El Tarter. If you are coming with older kids, we recommend the route through the Sorteny Valley, an initiatory-level journey for kids older than 10 or a medium-level one for kids older than 12. It has a duration of 2 hours and 2 hours and 30 minutes, respectively.

Other routes we propose are the one that takes place in Inclés Valley, located in Ordino and where you can explore the great flora and fauna and the history that this valley hides in the middle of Andorra’s Pyrenees. You can keep discovering Ordino with a night snow racket route or cross Grandvalira sectors for 3,4 or 5 hours. You can also enjoy a snow rackets route through Vallnord.

And if the thing you are looking for is to pass a day full of adventures, you can combine the snow rackets route with constructions of igloos, cross-country skiing, spa, mushing, tubbing, archery, snowmobiles and even spend a night in an ice hotel after the night route.

The activity takes place during the winter season, normally between December and March, with the option of extending or shorten this period depending on the weather.

If you already have experience and want to explore Andorra on your own, you can rent the snow rackets and ski poles to just go free. Usually, the rentals can be for one day, and there is normally snow rackets of 33-34 feet. Is recommendable to come with winter clothes and above all, wear leggings to avoid the snow to enter our shoes and so the feet get wet.

All the routes are guided by a certified mountain instructor, that knows perfectly the zone and the terrain. He/she will take you through the best spots whilst explaining everything you are watching during the route.

I have also written my opinion on adults, in this case it is for children. To point out that we are doing the activity with a 11-year-old child, Much of the crossbar. In addition we had a crazy luck with the weather and with the sun everything looks beautiful. The landscape is impressive and removing the first stretch of ascent by a track that will cost you. A little more, the rest enjoy. Like a dwarf. An opportunity.

It was the first time we made snowshoes and we loved the experience. We were eight people, including a child of eleven years old, and at first we went on a marked and uphill route, which made us weary, but later we went off-track and it was very difficult. Interesting. The guide, Jordi, adapted to our progress and explained what we were asking. They do not skimp in time or are looking at the clock all the time. A success.
