Where to fo scuba diving in La Herradura?

- Diving at Piedra del Hombre: Piedra del Hombre is a part of La Herradura which lies on the east side of the bay. Here there are massive rock walls that can reach depths of up to 12 metres. You will find it fascinating to discover lots of marine life in its nooks and crannies, especially Sabella spallanzanii. It is also called sea dusters and is a sea worm that looks like something out of an alien film. In its crevices, we will also see conger eels, forkbeards and disturbing moray eels, and when the sun is at its best, large shoals of bream, mojarras and salps usually come to visit us at Piedra del Hombre. We will also see solitary fredi fish, a small colourful fish that is a delight to find.

- Dive in La Calita: Diving in La Calita is the perfect plan for those who already have some experience and qualifications in diving. Here, you can reach a depth of about 44 metres, so you can be sure that what awaits you is out of this world. Here you will find walls dyed entirely in red due to the infinity of corals that adorn them and a very diverse variety of fish. Its waters shelter the Cueva del Bogavante (lobster cave), a narrow cave where you will find what you can imagine, lobsters. It is a spectacular place for a dive, not only because of the marine diversity it enjoys but also because it has ideal conditions for diving, with perfect visibility of up to 25 metres.

- Discover Punta de la Mona: We are now talking about the most exciting dive spot not only in La Herradura but in the whole of the Costa Tropical. It is the deepest place in the region to make a dive, where you can reach a depth of 48 metres, so we have a guaranteed underwater adventure. As you would expect, this place is suitable only for those with qualifications because there is a great depth and the current can be quite powerful.

If, on the other hand, you want to discover the natural landscape of the Maro-Cerro Gordo Cliffs by diving, we recommend any of these places:

- La Pared de la Calaiza: This place is one of the overhangs that make up the bay of La Herradura itself. You will dive along the eastern slope of Cerro Gordo, between the Caliza beach and the tip of the bay. Standing at the foot of this gigantic rock mass is awe-inspiring, and when you dive in, you will discover a breathtaking landscape. It is a perfect place for beginners and experienced divers alike, not only because of the impressive marine life it harbours but also because the currents are gentle, so diving here is not a difficult task and you can reach a depth of 15 metres. The Calaiza Wall has it all. If you wish to dive to this site, be prepared to see molluscs, sea urchins and starfish, octopus, cleaner shrimps, moray eels. You will also spot schools of fish such as beaked seabreams, snook and imperial seabreams. Of course, the marine flora is incredible, and you will be able to see countless anemones and corals as you pass by.

- La Cueva del Sifón: This cave is a perfect spot for those who have been diving for a long time as you will enter a marine cave. The experience is unparalleled, and we recommend that you try this dive in the summer. We say this because, at around 14:00, the sun sets in the perfect place and illuminates the entire interior of the cave, and you will enjoy a beautiful light show surrounded by the most intriguing marine flora and fauna. Here, you will find an abundance of colourful sea worms, bream, conger eels, moray eels and cleaner shrimps hiding in the crevices of the walls. We must also highlight its marine flora, so exotic that it seems from another planet. You will also be surprised to come across Gnathophyllum elegans, a rare crustacean whose skin is covered with polka dots. Although these are rare, they are easy to spot in these waters.
