Tips if you are going to do Diving in Tenerife

The island of Tenerife is probably one of the best places in Spain to go scuba diving. Its extensive coastline, together with the mild temperatures that are maintained practically all year round, make Tenerife the perfect destination for discovering scuba diving. Thus, the province of Tenerife offers diving enthusiasts one of the most crystalline waters in the world with mild temperatures during all year, and where you can find everything from the most incredible marine biodiversity (stingrays and turtles) to sunken ships and volcanic caves.

For this reason, Tenerife is visited by thousands of tourists looking to go scuba diving throughout the year. Some of the most important diving spots in Tenerife are: Las Galletas, with its veriles and crevices that you will hardly forget, Radazul, Las Eras, the lighthouse of Punta de La Rasca, Punta de Teno, a very protected place where the water remains calm for divers with beautiful seabeds, Barranco Seco, Los Chuchos, Montaña Amarilla, Puerto de Los Cristianos, Roncadores, La Chimenea, Cueva de los Cerebros and Garachico.

You will be able to enjoy diving baptisms too if you don't have any previous experience and you feel like trying this sport, but also immersions for qualified divers, if you have the PADI Open Water Diver accreditation or an equivalent certificate. Dives can be booked individually or in packs of up to 10 sessions. If you haven't had the chance to get the proper training yet, you can also try signing up for an OWD course or even continue your training with the Advanced Open Water Diver and subsequent levels (Rescue Diver and Divemaster).

You will find diving schools practically all along the coastline. There are several options close to the main cities, such as Santa Cruz de Tenerife and Puerto de la Cruz. But when it comes to diving, the most popular area of the island are probably the coasts of Adeje and Arona, next to Las Américas beach. Most boats leave from Puerto Colón for excursions that generally go as far as Puerto Santiago, next to the cliffs of Los Gigantes.

From Adeje there is a very popular trip to the area around Playa Paraíso, where there is usually a lot of sea turtle activity, which means you will be able to snorkel among them! Also, if you are not convinced about diving with oxygen support devices, you can always sign up for one of the many snorkelling trips in the area.

If you prefer to discover the south of Tenerife, you can go on excursions to Las Galletas, on the Costa del Silencio, to Los Abrigos, very close to the south airport area, or to El Médano, next to the Montaña Roja Special Nature Reserve.

If you decide to go to the eastern coast side of this island, one of the most active areas is Candelaria, where you can go diving in Las Caletillas or Punta Larga. If you go a few kilometres north, you will reach Radazul, a town where you can also prepare your underwater expedition. Just next door, in Tabaiba, you can do one of the most picturesque dives this island has to offer: diving on the wreck of El Pejín, a famous ship sunk 30 metres underwater. Therefore, you need to be an advanced-level diver to reach it.

Although less abundant, there are also dives on the northwest coast. You can come and dive from the beautiful village of Garachico to even Punta de Teno, in the western side of Tenerife.
