Merón Surf

At Merón Surf School we work to become a surfer on the Cantabrian beaches around San Vicente de la Barquera. Here we find the right conditions to get on the waves almost every day of the year, in fact on Merón beach we will find a paradise for those of us who are regulars of this sport.

You can contact us to:

- Learn to surf : from the beginning, without knowing anything before coming to see us, you can stay with the school for one day for an initial course of 120 minutes. If you have more time, you can extend your course for 2 days, 5 days from Monday to Friday, 10 days, 15 or even 20 days to become a specialist.

- Renting equipment from other disciplines : if you didn't fit your favorite material in your suitcase, at school we have to rent bodyboard and paddle surf boards. Another item that you may need is a full neoprene. You can also ask us for it and rest assured that it will serve you because we have all the sizes so that it fits you like a glove and can fulfill its function in the water.

In addition, we can advise you on accommodation whether you want to spend the night camping to be closer to nature or if you need an apartment.

At the Merón Surf School you can request to rent material for paddle surfing. We recommend that you try this option, which in the absence of waves is very calm and simple, so that you can see the Oyambre Natural Park from the sea. You will then know why it has been classified as a surf reserve around the world.

The stand up paddle equipment consists of paddle and board . The board will give a greater stability than the surfboards because it has a noticeably larger surface. Therefore, if you are not a surfer and you think that you will not be able to stand on it, it is a matter of trying it. You will be surprised how quickly it can be achieved if the water is calm.

As for rowing, it has the role of making us advance on journeys to where we want. Choose how long you want to have the sup material and you will have different options in the water:

- For 1 or 2 hours : recommended, especially in the first case, if you have little or no idea about this discipline. Stay close to the coast and focus on learning to gain stability on the board and then coordinate your movements with those of the paddle.

- For half a day or the whole day : it is a type of rental that we recommend if you already have experience and want to have enough time to get away on a complete excursion, even stopping to eat or bathe at any point in the coastline.

If you need it to get into the sea, you can also rent the full wetsuit in your size.

The recent appearance of Merón Surf on the beaches of San Vicente de la Barquera is nourished by more than two decades of experience accumulated by its instructors. Throughout their trajectory on this same coastline they have been able to know in detail the behavior of the sea and its waves at each moment of the year, which now applies in the surf courses that we offer you.

We are very close to Merón Beach, which belongs to the Oyambre Natural Park . If you regularly move between the waves you will know that it is an internationally recognized spot for this sport. Therefore, we want you to enjoy it regardless of the date since we are open during all seasons.

Participate in one of the initiation programs and start to get hold of the board gaining autonomy:

- We dedicate a total of 2 hours to them , time in which you will have learned to know the material and what are the phases from when you are in the sand until you try to stand up in the water.

- We will lend you the board and a neoprene from the Billabong brand that fits you well and is adapted to the ambient temperature, since they are of different thickness and you must be comfortable for your training.

- You will share a class with a maximum of 5 students per teacher so that you can notice their attention to you and have time to consult any doubts that may arise.

In addition, we have the option of changing the beach to find the one with the best conditions for the course.
